Finding “your” scent is like finding gold (for me at least). There are so many perfume scents you can go for, whether it’s floral, more musky, fruity, and there are so many brands! You can be looking for a scent that’s more appropriate for daytime, or sometimes you want something sexier for nighttime affairs. Your skin’s PH levels also really effect how scents come off on your skin so sometimes you may love how a perfume smells when you spray it in the store, but it could smell completely different when you actually wear it.Where does one begin! Typically, I tend to go towards scents that are more floral and sweet. When I close my eyes, I want to envision myself in a garden filled with peonies while holding a fruit cocktail, ya know? But of course, this does depend on the mood and season I’m experiencing. Sometimes I want to smell like my feet are in the sand in Hawaii so…I’m all over the place! Finding your scent can be quite the hunt but in my opinion, once you find a scent typically it sticks with you and it starts being known as “your scent”. Here are some of my favorite scents:
Le Labo Santal 33 | Okay, so this is actually completely different then what I just said (once again, I’m all over the place) but this is one of my all-time favorite scents. I first got a whiff of this scent when I actually bought a vintage sweater from one of my favorite YouTubers Alex Centomo. I opened my package and instantly emailed her asking what that beautiful smell was. The minute she told me it was Le Labo Santal 33, I ran to my nearest Nordstrom and hunted it down. The cool thing about Le Labo is they will create the scent you choose right in front of you (it’s like a little laboratory). Oh, and I forgot to mention how you can customize the label to say whatever you want on it. It’s a pretty fun experience!
The Santal 33 gives off a very smoky, spicy, leather, musky scent, a very comfortable and addicting smell. This scent specifically will last all day and is one of those scents that really travel with you and leave a lasting memory with anyone who crosses your path.
Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin |I have to say, there is not one Jo Malone perfume that I’ve smelt that I do not like. That’s quite the statement but it’s very true. Just this past Christmas, I walked in Holt Renfrew and towards the Jo Malone section and was smelling every single one to try to find a daytime scent that worked for me. The amazing thing about Jo Malone is that there are so many types of scents that he carries that can cater to any occasion and any preference of smell. The minute I tried out the Lime Basil and Mandarin scent, I knew I would have to come back in the Spring to pick this up. This is the most perfect scent for the warmer months. When Spring hits, I always crave a more fruity and fresh scent for myself. Lime and Basil gives off the most fruity, citrusy, fresh scent, with keynotes of mandarin, basil, and amber wood, so it’s absolute perfection for the Spring and Summer months.
Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt | This perfume also makes for a fantastic scent for the warmer months. The minute I smelt this, I was ready to book a trip to somewhere really hot with lots and lots of sand. The Wood Sage and Sea Salt keynotes are ambrette seeds, sea salt, and sage, that bring memories of a tropical vacation to mind. I actually decided that this was going to be a daytime scent for myself starting this winter because I wanted the reminder of summer to be with me every day. I really hate the winter and this scent is getting me through these cold, windy, snowy days, that Canada loves to offer.
What are your favorite scents? Musky, tropical, floral? Let me know in the comments!
